Miscarriages

Having a miscarriage is one of the most painful things a person can be faced with and will undoubtedly cause them to worry about their future fertility.

Sadly, miscarriages are a common occurrence, with one in six pregnancies ending before week 20. Most miscarriages occur during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy.

A small percentage of couples will experience more than one miscarriage. About 2% of women experience two or more consecutive early pregnancy losses. This is called recurrent miscarriage or recurrent pregnancy loss.

At Footsteps To Fertility Centre, you can expect peace of mind that you are getting assistance from doctors who are experts in the field and have achieved the highest level of fertility training.

Whether you are trying to improve your health, improve fertility, strengthen immunity, or are looking for fertility care, our compassionate fertility specialist will be able to advise and help you.

Causes Of Miscarriages

Some of the causes of miscarriage include:

  • Random chromosome abnormalities
  • Specific genetic abnormalities
  • Parental chromosome abnormalities (for example translocations)
  • Uterine abnormalities
  • Immune disorders
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Other Medical Conditions
  • Female age is also an important factor. After the age of 43, there is a 50% chance of miscarriage.

Miscarriage And Infertility

There is no evidence that states that a miscarriage causes infertility. Yet, there is a large possibility that a woman who has experienced a miscarriage could experience another. This is most commonly due to an underlying health condition. If you have not been checked for any underlying issues since the miscarriage, you should absolutely do so. Especially if you have miscarried more than once. Certain conditions could possibly be treated depending on what they are and the severity.

Our fertility specialists are experts in reproductive issues, including early pregnancy care. We provide support for couples who have experienced the distress of miscarriage and includes

  • Testing to investigate possible causes of miscarriage.
  • Specialized care during the next pregnancy, including blood tests, and hormonal and ultrasound monitoring to provide reassurance throughout the first stages of pregnancy.

Treatment For Miscarriages

Embryo Screening – The most common reason why IVF is unsuccessful is chromosomal abnormalities in an embryo. We can now screen all chromosomes in the developing embryo and select the embryo with the greatest likelihood of pregnancy success. This process is called Advanced Embryo Selection.

This screening is suited for women who:

  • are 38 years and over, or
  • have a history of miscarriages, or
  • have a hereditary chromosomal condition, or
  • have experienced unsuccessful IVF.
